Last additions - Myelinated Nerve Fiber Layer

62-year-old man has a vitreous separation in both eyes and myelinated nerve fiber layer in the right eye. His vision since he was here last is a little different in that he sees some more floaters and flashes. VISUAL ACUITY: OD 20/25, OS 20/30. IOP: 10 OU. The posterior chamber intraocular lens is in good position in both eyes with open capsules. EXTENDED OPHTHALMOSCOPY: OD: Vertical C/D ratio is 0.3. There is posterior vitreous separation. There is myelinated nerve fiber layer superotemporal. OS: Vertical C/D ratio is 0.3. There is posterior vitreous separation. The macula and periphery look healthy with scleral depression and no retinal tears. Photos confirm clinical findings. IMPRESSION: 1. ACUTE POSTERIOR VITREOUS SEPARATION – LEFT EYE WITHOUT TEARS 2. POSTERIOR VITREOUS SEPARATION – RIGHT EYE 3. MYELINATED NERVE FIBER LAYERS – RIGHT EYE DISCUSSION: I explained to the patient that most people who do develop retinal tears do so within the first few months of the onset of the floaters and therefore I believe the risk of retinal tears in the left eye is very low. I asked him to return for a check and to see you periodically.
