63-year-old woman has juxtafoveal retinal telangiectasis in both eyes. She notices her vision a little worse with more distortion and change over the last six months. VISUAL ACUITY: OD 20/40, OS 20/40. IOP: OD 11, OS 12. The posterior chamber intraocular lens is in good position in both eyes. EXTENDED OPHTHALMOSCOPY: OD: Vertical C/D ratio is 0.3. There is some irregularity of the fovea. OS: Vertical C/D ratio is 0.3. The foveal looks irregular. FUNDUS PHOTOGRAPHY - AUTO FLUORESCENCE: The image in the right eye does show hypo auto fluorescence in the center of the fovea from the lack of normal pigment deposition, which is common in patients with juxtafoveal retinal telangiectasis. SPECTRALIS-SD-OCT SCAN: The OCT scans both show foveal gaps in the retina. IMPRESSION: 1. JUXTAFOVEAL RETINAL TELANGIECTASIS – BOTH EYES (MACULAR TELANGIECTASIA) DISCUSSION: I explained to the patient her retina problem unfortunately is at the moment untreatable, but generally doesn’t cause substantial vision loss in both eyes. Some people do develop neovascularization.
