Macular Hole in IJFT - MacTel


80-year-old man has juxtafoveal retinal telangiectasis in both eyes. He also has a true full-thickness macular hole in the left eye. I presented his case at the Gass Society this year and the consensus was not to operate the macular hole. VISUAL ACUITY: The vision OD is 20/40, OS is 20/160. IOP: 17 in both eyes. The posterior chamber intraocular lens is in good position in both eyes with open capsules. EXTENDED OPHTHALMOSCOPY: OD: Vertical C/D ratio is 0.1. There are retinal crystals temporal to the fovea. OS: Vertical C/D ratio is 0.1. There are retinal crystals and a macular hole. OCT SCAN: OCT scan of the right eye shows the retina to be thin and the left eye shows the macular hole. IMPRESSION: 1. JUXTAFOVEAL RETINAL TELANGIECTASIS – BOTH EYES 2. MACULAR HOLE – LEFT EYE DISCUSSION: I explained to the patient the retinas are stable. I asked him to return for check in one year, sooner should he notice a problem. He will see you back periodically.
