58-year-old woman has a branch retinal vein occlusion in the left eye with macular edema. She has been treated for that in the past. Recently her vision has been declining. (January 2008 Case) VISUAL ACUITY: OS: 20/70. IOP: OS 14. There is 1+ nuclear sclerosis. DILATED FUNDUS EXAMINATION: OS: Vertical C/D ratio is 0.3. There is edema involving the fovea from the branch retinal vein occlusion inferiorly. OCT SCAN: The OCT scan shows worsening macular edema. FLUORESCEIN ANGIOGRAM: FA photos confirm the leakage from multiple vessels in the left eye in the distribution of branch retinal vein occlusion. IMPRESSION: 1. BRANCH RETINAL VEIN OCCLUSION - LEFT EYE 2. WORSENING MACULAR EDEMA - LEFT EYE DISCUSSION: I explained to the patient the macula in the left eye does look worse today. I treated her with focal laser without any difficulty. She is to return for a check in six weeks, sooner should she notice any problem.
