Neuroretinitis - Child - NOT cat scratch - ANA positive 5 year old girl. She was born with a hemangioma behind the left eye in her brain. She was admitted to the hospital and put on beta blockers. She is checked by a pediatric/neuro-ophthalmologist about every 6 months. She was in for a regular checkup and you noticed that the optic nerves were swollen and that her vision had decreased. You suggested that she come her for an evaluation. An MRI was done last week at ACH. The MRI was normal. The hemangioma by the left eye was gone. Another MRI is planned in a few months. Then last week she also had a spinal tap to check the ICP. Her ICP was normal. She was also checked for meningitis. She had a bunch of blood work. She was put on IV steroids for a few days to try to shrink the optic nerves. She was discharged from the hospital on Monday and saw you yesterday. She was told there was optic neuritis and papilledema. Everyone is bewildered. She has labs pending for cat scratch and lyme (are still pending). Everyone in her family is allergic to cats and there has been no exposure. She was in Minnesota for vacation in July (mostly Mall of America and hotels). She is also completely healthy. VA OD: sc20/80+2 VA OS: sc20/100-2 The patient has had extensive testing lyme syphilis cat scratch ace MRI - everything normal except for positive ANA - ROS normal
